About me
What am I all about? I am committed to my community and genuinely care about helping everyone achieve success in their life. My values, instilled in me by my mother, who was also an active party member, guide my actions and aspirations. I am a member of the Co-operative Party and the Community Trade Union, both aligned with my values and approach.
How did I get here? Having started life from working class beginnings, I have embraced the opportunities that have come my way. A stable home and support to get by was the spring board that saw my mother become a teacher, my sister a nurse, my brother a caring and passionate leader and me beating the odds to get to university.
Have I got what it takes? Now I work as a business consultant, helping companies to improve and enhance their services for their customers and their teams. I've developed a range of skills throughout my career from solving big problems to providing leadership to teams through good and bad times. I do it all with a positive outlook and belief that if we're doing things for right reason, there is always a way to be successful. It's these experiences that make me think I am a strong candidate to be our next MSP.
But why do I want to take this on? My primary aim is to give back to my community, empowering others to seize their opportunities and have fulfilling lives. I am dedicated to creating a supportive environment where everyone can thrive and achieve their dreams. In our party, this started from the first time I went to a councillor with some casework at a door knocking session. I had spoken to someone who was struggling to get the improvements they needed to their council house. 3 weeks later it was sorted and I knew this was type of work I was meant to be doing.
Can I be successful in the public sector? Currently, I serve on the management committee of our Community Centre, where we are embarking on the ambitious journey of transitioning the Centre into community ownership. While this endeavour may seem daunting—particularly compared to collaborating with well-resourced businesses—our motivation remains rooted in the purpose: to secure stability and prosperity for this vital community asset. We're working together, supporting each other and using our collective experiences to it make a success. It is that approach, which I see in our movement also, that gives me the confidence I can help to make a difference.
What am I asking? To get there, I need your support. If I've learned anything during my time, it is that we can achieve great things as a team. I need your experience, your suggestions, your advice, your help and your confidence that we can make tomorrow better than today. I need your vote to be put forward as our candidate, but we need our team to make the change that we can all be proud of.
